Botanical name:  Silybum marianum

Origin:  China

Therapeutic actions:  Astringent; Antioxidant; Bitter; Cholagogue; Diaphoretic; Diuretic; Emetic; Emmenagogue; Galactogogue; Hepatic; Nervine; Stimulant; Stomachic; Tonic.

Nutrients:  Calcium, fatty acids, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium and zinc.

Drug interactions:  Supports those taking Acetaminophen, Acetaminophen with codeine, chemotherapy drugs, general anesthetics, Haloperidol, Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen, Lovastatin, Nitrous Oxide, Pravastatin, and Tacrine.

Description:  This herb goes directly to the liver cell's center to start new protein formation, which causes cell reproduction, regeneration and repair. Milk Thistle fights off both bacterial and viral infections.

Internal uses:  It is specific for liver problems including jaundice, cirrhosis, hepatitis and damage from drug and alcohol abuse.  Also works to prevent plaque buildup and prevent hardening of the arteries. It has also improved memory. 

Suggested dosage:  420—600 mg per day, or 1 dropperful 2 times per day, preferably in the morning before noon.
